I started back with the Lancaster Roots and Blues festival this week which for me means actually having to set an alarm, crawl out of bed and DO WORK! Thankfully we are in the beginning stages of setting up the festival for 2016 and now that I have the 3 1/2 months of planning and execution under my belt from the last festival, I am pleased and excited to have the extra months to make sure no "t" goes uncrossed. If you haven't checked out my blog documenting my behind the scenes process, you can click the button above in the header and enjoy!
It's interesting when I started that blog last year. In a way it was my means of venting and also sharing. I had also learned in event planning and promotion, you would be surprised how even something so simplistic as listing your thoughts for people of the web can lead to exposure. When I was planning art gallery exhibits in LA, I would create little YouTube slideshows and bios for the artists, post of Facebook and create free events on Event Brite and other websites. My bosses thought it was a waste of time but every little bit helped and we expanded our patronage to guests who would have never even knew we existed.
For example I posted a simple blog yesterday finally finishing my recap of the festival and by the time I checked the stats this morning, over 60 people had stopped by. I only posted on twitter to check it out and I have to say I was surprised! As I have been over the passed few months when I hadn't posted since June and I was continuing to receive hits. I literally called Weebly and asked if the stats were correct or just a generator to try and get me to upgrade. The kind gentleman on the other end of the called chucked and assured me that those were indeed the correct stats.
So I say thank you. To You! Thanks for stopping by and hopefully enjoying my rants and random thoughts. It makes my heart smile!
So what's new? Well I have been working hard at hitting as many of my summer bucket list points! Let's see....
- Have a dodgeball day in the park
- Slow dance in the rain while Ed Sheeran plays in the background
- Go to a concert
- Have an awesome Birthday
- Spend the weekend in Ocean City, MD riding rickety rides and reading by the ocean
- Write a poem that brightens someone's day
- Get a tan, even if it's only for a week. I'll take tons of pictures haha!!!
- Go swimming (I swam in the Ocean Too!)
I feel pretty good about that list so far! I still have a few weeks left and working my way through! I have a few things up my sleeve!
My second year I was in the event department at Boulevard3 and was granted the privilege of hosting our birthdays. We had the 3 best Dance floor tables, bottle service and I happened to arrive in a Rolls-Royce. The years following I hosting my birthday again at the club with my friend and photographer Jenn Hoffman, partied at Lucky Strike and even had myself Roasted for my 30th. Last year I was on the verge of figuring out where my life was headed next and didn't quite feel like doing anything special and so this year, bring surrounded by the greatest people, we gathered at a local watering hole for brunch. I got to see two of my cousins which I haven't seen in person in maybe 15 years or so. And I was presented with the most gorgeous necklace and flowers from my one and only.
I truly had a beautiful day and as the years go by, it's not how many bottles we pop, it's the people who take the time to make an effort to let you know that they care.
So as I conclude my rant for the day, I hope you have a chance to enjoy your day. Wherever this blog may find you, I hope you have a moment to breathe and find even one small thing to be thankful for. If you have a chance, do something kind for someone close to you. They may need a little love and your thought may be just what the doctor ordered to bring a smile to their face.
Cheers and Billowing Clouds,
Blondesheep
