Hello and welcome back to a Blondesheep Ranting! How was your weekend? Here is hoping that you were able to bank a few smiles, hugs and laughter since the last time you stopped by. It’s interesting the moments you seem to keep track of and those that might pass you by but picked up by someone near to you.
My weekend was a rollercoaster! Being in the service industry you never know what you are walking in to. You can never really be sure if you’ll be super busy, steady or if you’ll be joining the crickets in a serenade. My Friday and Saturday night was chaos at the restaurant and left me mentally and physically exhausted. Saturday nights are the start of our “weekend” and forever I powered through my week looking forward to a night out on the town. However for the past few weeks I haven’t had the energy to look forward to a night out which is just plain sad. So having the most amazing and understanding boyfriend in the world, we ordered take out and decided a night in (even if it was date night) would do us both good. Honestly at that point I was tempted to curl up in a ball and refuse to speak to anyone for the next 48 hours, but what good would that do?
So Sunday we decided to go on a site seeing adventure…to That Fish Place . My guy happens to share my love for fishy friends and we thought what a nice way to relax than to go browsing the fish! In my years I have loved being a fish owner. My first fish was a gold fish that I had won from a fair when I was 19 or 20. It took me that long due to the “He’ll die in less than a day if you win that fish” exclamations from my parents at fairs. Well I was pleased with Mr. Fish as he happened to live for close to 3 years.
After the mourning period of Mr. Fish I went to That Fish Place and fell in love with a shark, two dwarf frogs and 3 tetra. “Jaws”, “Hip and Hop” and 3’s Company… Original, I know. And you might be thinking… wait, a shark? Well the associate helped me find cohabitants for the shark and they lived for quite some time… Until I left on a 3 day trip to Pittsburgh and my apartment sitter forgot to feed the tank. As you could imagine, Jaws became tiredlessly hungry and so became to demise of Three’s Company. So from then on I was much more careful in making sure the frogs were not in danger and had those guys until before my big move. Oh how I missed my little guys!
So from there I had tried puppy ownership which led to finding two puppies exceptional homes with friends. I had a darling farm cat that traveled with me from PA to CA and allowed her to stay with the housemates of the Devonshire in Hollywood where she lived out her days a happy cat. Now that I have been here in PA, I’ve been itching to have a pet of my own. I’ve been lucky enough to live in houses where the home owner's dog needs some extra attention and care, which is perfect for me! But alas, here we were on the end of our browse and I came across the beta fish section.
Because Beta Fish can be so aggressive towards their male and female peers, they are kept in tiny cups for sale. How sad! There had to have been around 150 cups in that back room. Once we decided that we were absolutely leaving with a new addition to our little family, I felt almost guilty lifting each cup to examine their colorings instead of just choosing a random cup. They all needed homes, that's for sure. So after a few minutes of deliberation, we both chose a fish to share our love and off to find them a perfect home to fit within a home.
We decided on the tank you see up top. On the left (hard to see) is Peter and on the right is Parker... and yes, they are named after Peter Parker from Spiderman because we all have a right to geek out every now and then ;) So they each have their own tanks and as the days go on, (I am finally finishing this blog a week later lol) we add a little bit here and there to their tanks and I become more and more fascinated with their individual personalities. I am proud to be the mom of 2 beautiful boys aka male beta fish ;)
So thank you for stopping by and I hope if you have the chance to provide a loving home for one of nature's beautiful creations, no matter how big or small, please do!
Have an amazing day and smile, you are beautiful.
