Hi there and thanks for stopping by this blog! today I wanted to rant a bit about staying in touch with friends, peers and family. Do you remember life before the internet? When you ran to the mailbox every day and getting mail was actually a gift! You'd wait for those handwritten emails, photos sent from trips abroad and postcards to cover the fridge door. Pen pals were an escape into another person's reality and a way of learning new cultures.
Can you believe that some schools are removing cursive writing from the mandatory curriculum? I know that cursive can be a lost art but how will people sign their names? Well I guess I can answer my own question as most everything is turning into an electronic era. But as a person who enjoys freestyle writing, I love writing in cursive. I think it's beautiful :)
And on that rant take a look at this video about Master Penman Jake Weidmann.

Pretty incredible huh?
So now in #2015 I feel like we spend so much time on the internet, myself included that we loose an authenticity in the tangible and present. Years back when we were planning the 1st High School reunion I was still out West and my first thought was, why spend $500 to fly back East when I already know what everyone is up to through Facebook? Granted I was being selfish and cheap lol, but somehow felt I was being realistic. But it's true, if I was to catch up, I can scroll through albums and videos and in less than 20 seconds I'm up to speed.
But one night I received a message from my old high school friend Kate, asking for my phone number. I was like, okay, cool. In less than a few minutes, my phone was ringing from a VA caller, sure enough it was Kate. We spent the next 40 or so minutes, actually catching up. Hearing her familiar voice and laugh, reminiscing about our younger years. It felt great. And as much as I say that I hate talking on the phone, just text me for goodness sakes, I wouldn't have given up that phone call for anything.
When my friend Taylor went off to college we would send each other letters. Sometimes getting creative with magazine tears of letters forming words or funny cartoons. My favorite part of the day was receiving a new letter updating me on his new college days. But as life goes, it get's in the way and slowly our letters stopped being sent and received.

I do admit that Skype is a pretty phenomenal gift. There were plenty of days when I needed a touch of home and had a chance to catch my best East Coast friend on a good time schedule to Skype. Just to see her smiling face and actually talk. And I think about all of those soldiers who have the opportunity to see their loved ones while fighting for our Country.
But in the end, good old fashioned, face to face time can't be beat. You can't hug through the internet and sometimes that's all you need!
All in all now that I have friends on both Coasts, I am super thankful for the internet and I stalk as necessary! I get to feel as though I am still somehow in their lives, no matter the miles.
So in closing, thank you for reading my rant and I hope you have a blessed day! If you have a chance, pick up the phone and dial a friend or schedule a coffee date with someone you haven't had a chance to catch up with. You both deserve it!
Cheers and Envelopes,
Blondesheep
