Seven years ago when Myspace was pretty much the only social media outlet available and a key source in connecting with new people, I received a message from one Nick Gill. He had noticed through my profile that I was new to Los Angeles and he happened to have a number of friends who were transplants from Pennsylvania just like myself.
Nick extended an invitation to an art exhibit downtown to meet some of his friends and explore the city. The night was more than interesting as we definitely started off lost in a warehouse district trying to find the studio. When we arrived there was music, drinks, art and new friendships created.
I got to get to know Nick over the next couple of years. Caring, funny, hard working and comprised of an outside of the box way of thinking leaking into his photography. Nick has a way of allowing a person to express themselves in ways they may not normally do in public. He is creative and comfortable. His work is one of my favorites and I can't wait to see what he does in the coming years.
Back in 2008 I started working in creative management for the venue Boulevard3 in Hollywood. It was my job to create a theme for each Friday night. In my process I started contacting photographers and artists about gallery exhibits. The venue was absolutely gorgeous and I was lucky enough to give opportunities to artists that would normally cost an arm and a leg on their own. As artists when can give back, we give it all.
So I contacted Nick and he was absolutely interested. We chose a date three months ahead so he could have enough time to put together a new series. He created "The Water Project". He set up a small pool and staff covered the models in water. The point was to capture the subject's reaction to water, while having a little fun doing it. Check out a few shots below:

So imagine these images in 24" x 36" light boxes. The light illuminating from behind. Each drop of water glistening through the piece and capturing your attention. These pieces were amazing and by far one of the most interesting shows we ever hosted.
To add to the theme for the night, we brought a few stunt carpenters who built a fully functioning shower on the main stage of the ballroom where our hot gogo dancers got a chance to cool off!
Then they created a running tub in one of our mirror pools. Our girls had a chance to play in the bubbles while enjoying some champagne. So from the minute you walked in the doors to the full experience of the dancefloor, you were surrounded by water.
Nick worked so hard to promote that show and he was quite successful. There were over 350 people and media who attended on his guest list. Record numbers for any of the exhibits we had hosted. I was so proud of my friend!
Now Nick is bicoastal from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles. If you have a chance, stop by his website and show some love! nickgillphoto.com

Here's a shot Nick took of me back when I submitted for the Bachelor. Bahaha, yeah, I admitted it ;)
So cheers to Nick Gill and his creativity. He was one of my first friends in LA, and one of these days I'll jump ship and take a visit up to Pitt and finally catch up!
Yours truly,
Blondesheep
