If I write the words
There will be truth in the grooves left behind by the pen
If I admit the love,
once stronger than a thousand angry horses
Has faded to the winds and left only memories behind
There will be truth in the honesty.
If I allow the dread tempting my stomach into knots to be real
Even when I open my eyes
I'll know it's real.
A permanent mark in time that my soul has moved on
Taken the anchor from the lust filled waters and returned to her boat with no home.
Slowly raising her sails to the skies with only the stars to guide her in unchartered paths
If I can admit my flawed human disconnection
And return to the consuming darkness of loneliness to cocoon my released soul in a warmth only I know,
I'll leave you
With nothing but the scent
A spark so strong
So real and forthright
It could only have been but a dream
Extinguished as quickly as it found birth
My heart hurts in knowing I've brought this upon you
A sadness I've known all too well
One brick drawn from the wall has left but a thousand tumbling
If these words released to the universe find you before my eyes do
As they shed the story naked in their flecks of reflecting light
Know that words cannot describe my sorrow
the sorrow of a love thought found
But a cruel trick nonetheless
Set on by a universe destined for this soul to travel alone
You were not a stone to throw
Not a lesson to be learned
But a gift
Although short lived
The impression is thick
Until the next life.
For I fear this cycle is one our souls continue to endure.
